- Surface Preparation

All too many end users have to gasp, hold their breath, scratch their head and ask “Oh no why did my paint, coating, lining or resinous flooring system fail?” How many of you have had the unfortunate circumstances arise that result in asking that very question? While proper materials selection and application methods are a critical part of any coating or paint system’s success, historically the number one reason for premature failure is inadequate surface preparation. That’s right. “It’s all about the surface preparation” is not too far from the truth.

There are many preparation standards available from NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers), SSPC (Structural Steel Painting Counsil) and ASTM (American Standards of Testing and Measurement) that serve as a guide for good surface preparation practices. Even so, there are numerous variables from one surface to another that can’t all be captured by the standards. So achieving optimal surface preparation also requires a broad base of experience and know-how to evaluate the individual “conditional factors” and treat them appropriately.

With over 63+ years of industry experience, we at The Soep Companies know the importance of surface preparation and put that to practice in our workmanship. A big part of our job is to intimately familiar with the latest technology, means and methods that give coating systems the strong base they need.

Welcome & thanks for visiting the new SOEP Companies’ website and interactive blog forum.

The idea for this site and forum came out of a few simple questions. What can we do to improve how easy is it for potential customers and business partners to find us? How do we make information about our organization and our culture readily available? What would be the best way to publicly exchange our ideas and our thoughts on the industries we’ve been part of and the services we’ve provided (painting, wall covering, waterproofing, coating, spray polyurethane foam to name a few) for over 63 years? While no single answer captured it all, we think this site and blog will go a long way.

So, we hope you’ll join us here often. Feel free to post comments and questions. We’ll be updating weekly with answers and other useful stuff.
